Dr. (Prof.) Anup Kumar Saha is a distinguished surgeon, academician, healthcare administrator, and public servant with over four decades of experience in medical education, clinical surgery, hospital administration, and public healthcare. An MBBS graduate from the University of Burdwan (1979) and MS (General Surgery) from the University of Calcutta (1985), he has dedicated his career to advancing surgical excellence and medical education.
Institutional Leadership
Throughout his illustrious professional journey, Dr. Saha has held several prestigious positions across leading medical institutions in West Bengal and Tripura. He served as Professor & Head of the Department of General Surgery at Agartala Government Medical College before being appointed as its Principal, where he successfully led the institution until January 2026. He has also gained valuable international clinical experience as a Specialist Surgeon at Al Dossary Hospital, Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia.
Academic Excellence & Research
An accomplished academic leader, Dr. Saha has served as an MBBS and MS examiner for numerous universities across India, mentored postgraduate surgical trainees, and contributed extensively to medical education through guest lectures, national conferences, workshops, and academic publications. His research interests include gastrointestinal surgery, hernia surgery, surgical oncology, and minimally invasive surgery.
Healthcare Outreach & Professional Service
Beyond academia, Dr. Saha has been actively involved in healthcare outreach, organizing surgical camps, laparoscopic workshops, and free medical services through various social organizations. He has held memberships in several prestigious professional bodies, including the Indian Medical Association, Association of Surgeons of India, Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterology, Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endo Surgeons (IAGES), Indian Hernia Society, and the International Association of Surgery.
Public Service
Dr. Saha also served as a Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from 2009 to 2014, contributing to public policy and healthcare development at the national level.

Since 29 July 2026, Dr. (Prof.) Anup Kumar Saha has been serving as the Director of Tripura Shantiketan Medical College, Agartala, where he continues to provide visionary leadership, strengthen medical education, promote research, and enhance patient care while mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals.
He also serves as a Member of the Advisory Board and Chief Advisor / Chairman of Jeevatika Wellness.
